Another School Shooting? Definitional Challenges

Abstract

"My presentation documents the challenges of defining and measuring school shootings. Each and every database defines school shootings differently so the number of incidents changes depending on the source. In analyzing 5 different databases, some surprising results emerged in the form of line graphs to depict just how different each database may be from one another. Is that 'school shooting' you just heard about the type of incident you're imagining in your head, or is it something else entirely?"
