Abstract
"Traditionally, organic chemistry lab students perform experiments that are known to work time and time again. The main purpose of the Undergraduate Research in Organic Chemistry Course (UROCC) is for students to incorporate modern lab techniques and digital tools, scientific thinking, and collaboration. Students get to implement these skills by conducting research to synthesize bioactive heterocyclic tropinone derivatives in an attempt to develop a drug candidate for breast cancer. UROCC gives students the opportunity to learn lab techniques combined with a research project and is designed to provide them experience needed to succeed in a career in science."
