Abstract

Due to the rise of social media, it has become easier to access video footage of police brutality. Despite not being directly involved, viewers of these videos are at risk of long-lasting traumatic effects. By means of an electronic survey, which will be distributed through social media, this cross-sectional study will examine the mental health and secondary traumatic consequences experienced by those who watch video footage of incidents of police brutality. The findings from this survey may inform mental health professionals who are developing tools and resources for individuals who have been impacted by this form of secondary trauma.
