Item COVID-19 and Social Isolation in Older Adults(Northern Kentucky University) Martin, Sarah"COVID-19 has shaken the world to its core and has had a profound impact on the physical health of older adults. The unrelenting pandemic has also seen a surge of loneliness and social isolation for the gerontology population. This study seeks to address the implications of COVID19 and social isolation for older adults. The current literature showed that older adults are significantly impacted at an increased rate for physical and mental health complications. Findings show that statistically older adults are impacted at a higher level than other age groups, which is why awareness and advocating for this age group is so crucial to the improvement of their well being. COVID- 19 and social isolation have taken a negative toll on the bio-psycho-social aspects of older adults and future research needs to focus on awareness, advocating, focusing on the long-term mental and physical health implications for older adults as well as their family members and the impact it has had on them."Item COVID-19 and the impact on mental health(Northern Kentucky University) Martin, Sarah"The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on people's mental health. Specifically, literature demonstrates that COVID-19 has negatively impacted parents, first responders, law enforcement, and healthcare workers. Literature on the mental health ramifications of COVID-19 among the general public is largely missing. This exploratory, cross-sectional study will collect data from an estimated 200 individuals to examine the mental health implications of COVID-19 among the general public. The findings will show that COVID-19 has negative mental health implications. These results will allow me to educate others on the pandemic's impact on mental well being and how we can promote mental health."
