"Systemic racism in education has led to black students disproportionally being referred to the juvenile justice system due to relatively minor school- related behavior issues (truancy, disruptive behavior, etc.). The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between racial bias in punitive actions imposed by school systems and academic achievement outcomes. Results from an electronic survey are expected to show disproportionate involvement of African American students in the juvenile justice system being linked to those students having poor academic performance and career outlook. This research will highlight the effects of racial bias in education."
