Highly Skilled U.S. English Teachers working or aspiring to work in Japan face complications adapting to social and working cultures, compounded by complex issues such as immigration policy. These complications with acculturation can be detrimental to their career and even personal health. Many people aspire to live and work internationally, many of these issues are not exclusive to Japan or teaching English. This research investigates dilemmas specific to U.S. English teachers who work or have worked in Japan. Examining these dilemmas will help improve the quality of life for these teachers increasing the longevity of their careers in Japan.
