Participants were split into case groups (elevated cholesterol) and a control group (normal level). Logistic regression, a statistical method to estimate prevalence of a binary outcome variable, was used to analyze the prevalence of statin use while adjusting for various factors such as comorbidities, smoking status, insurance carrier, age group and hospital network affiliation, along with the groups (case vs. control) to which participants belonged.
