Abstract
"Settlers from Western Europe arrived in the Appalachian Mountains in the early 1700s bringing their way of life and ancient word with them. The barrier of those mountains created a culture unique to Appalachia, which has been matched with judgement from outsiders. In this project, I have highlighted Ms. Octavia Sexton’s life as a storyteller and the importance of oral tradition in Appalachia. I want to continue my work on this project to highlight culture in Appalachia, focusing on views from minority groups to show the diversity and unique culture that is rooted in the rich soil of the mountains."
