Barriers sexual minorities face when adopting

Abstract

"There are estimated 673,000 children in foster care in the United States, with 122,000 waiting to be adopted yearly. However, there are currently over 2 million Sexual Minorites (SM) that are interested in adoption but due to multiple barriers are unable to adopt. There has been little research into the barriers that SM individuals face while attempting to adopt. A brief self administered survey giving to SM individuals who have experienced this process will assist in exploring those barriers. This data can assist in exploring ways to reduce barriers for prospective SM parents so that there are more loving homes available."
