Abstract
Substance abuse negatively impacts academic progress and graduation retention of students nationwide. This study examines the effects on academics and the barriers for treatment for NKU students. Surveys were administered online to collect data from approximately 102 students. It is anticipated that students who currently abuse substances are more likely to struggle academically. Findings from this study could be used to create policy and programs that remove barriers and encourage students with substance abuse issues to seek and complete treatment while completing their education.
