Abstract
Research suggests that LGBTQ+ discrimination leads to increased mental illness. The current study seeks to examine the relationship between discrimination and mental health symptoms among LGBTQ+ students. A brief self-administered survey will be used to assess for perceived discrimination by LGBTQ+ students and reported symptoms of anxiety and depression. The results from this IRB approved study are expected to show a correlation between LGBTQ+ discrimination on campus and increased mental health disparities among NKU’s LGBTQ+ population. These findings can assist social workers in advocating for educational programs to prevent discrimination and improve mental health treatment for LGBTQ+ students.
