Abstract

"COVID-19 has shaken the world to its core and has had a profound impact on the physical health of older adults. The unrelenting pandemic has also seen a surge of loneliness and social isolation for the gerontology population. This study seeks to address the implications of COVID19 and social isolation for older adults. The current literature showed that older adults are significantly impacted at an increased rate for physical and mental health complications. Findings show that statistically older adults are impacted at a higher level than other age groups, which is why awareness and advocating for this age group is so crucial to the improvement of their well being. COVID- 19 and social isolation have taken a negative toll on the bio-psycho-social aspects of older adults and future research needs to focus on awareness, advocating, focusing on the long-term mental and physical health implications for older adults as well as their family members and the impact it has had on them."
