dc.description.abstract "Virtualization technologies are becoming more prevalent in the enterprise and consumer space. Many companies are opting for either on premises or in the cloud virtualization platforms for hosting their applications. In the pursuit of less overhead and more performance a newer virtualization technology, which offers a different way of packaging and deploying business applications as containers, has started to appear. One of the most common open-source versions of this is Docker, which facilitates this process through the use of the Docker Engine and containers. We will provide background information on what each of these technologies are and their most effective use cases as well as an evaluation and comparison of virtual machine performance, using a Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM) and container performance utilizing the Docker Engine." en_US
