Abstract

The ISS-CREAM instrument studies the composition of cosmic rays, charged particles that permeate the galaxy. The calorimeter is one of four detector subsystems and consists of 20 layers of sensitive fibers. In order to determine the track which a cosmic ray takes through the instrument, we fit a line through the particle locations on each layer of the calorimeter. In order to improve the accuracy of this track, we remove ribbons and layers from this fit using three parameters. We then conducted a study of 26,000 combinations of these parameters to determine which gives the optimal tracking algorithm.
